Get Involved

There is much to be done in the Lord’s house. For this reason we have several boards and organizations to accomplish our tasks. Members, both old and new, should endeavor to join a board or organization. It is a wonderful way to make new friends and acquaintances within the congregation and a great way to serve one another.

Boards

Members are elected to boards and serve for designated periods. Each board elects its officers and the chairperson of each board represents its board at the Church Council. The Church Council is headed by the chairman of the congregation.

These boards work together to carry out the wide range of tasks required of a church this size. Time and talent are always needed. Please consult the Constitution of Messiah Evangelical Lutheran Church for detailed information on the duties of each of the boards.

Services and Groups

Worship Besides the regular Sunday services, several special services are held throughout the year. Included are Thanksgiving Eve, Wednesday nights during Advent, Christmas Eve, Christmas, Epiphany (Jan 6), Ash Wednesday, Wednesday nights during Lent, Maundy Thursday, Good Friday, and Sunrise Easter services. Often these special services have a supper beforehand.

Bible Classes We encourage the study of God’s word both at church and at home. There is an adult Bible class every Sunday. Periodically, special Bible classes are conducted at various times. There is also a Youth Bible class.

Sunday School There is a very active Sunday School for kids 3 years and older.

Pastor’s Information Classes Are you new to Lutheranism? Or do you need a brush up on the six chief parts of the Christian faith? Information classes with the Pastor form on a regular basis and are open to anyone.

Confirmation Classes During the school year confirmation classes are held, which lead to communicant membership. These classes follow Luther’s Small Catechism and are generally for Junior High students. Classes begin in the fall and instruction lasts for 2 years.

Choirs Various choirs get together and practice for special occasions and sing in the church services and radio ministry.

Christ Lutheran School Messiah helps support a preK-8 Lutheran school along with several area Lutheran churches.

CLS Thrift Shop Come shop the Thrift Shop in Rock Falls. Find good deals and help support Christ Lutheran School. Donations and volunteers are also appreciated.

Radio Ministry Sunday services are broadcast live on WLLT 107.7 F.M. at 9:00 A.M.

Messiah Youth League (MYL) There is a very active Youth Group that is always busy with something. This group is open to High School age youth.

Believer’s In God's Word (BIG W) This club is open to Junior High School age youth.

Messiah Loving Care Groups (MLC) Several small groups meet in member’s homes and other locations to study the Bible and share their lives with other Christians who are facing similar situations.

Messiah’s Mature Members (3Ms) Come and join Messiah’s wisest and silvered in monthly activities such as dinner theater, tours, movies, etc. It is always a good time.

Lutheran Women’s Missionary League (LWML) The membership is drawn from congregations in Zone 14. Each year a mission project is selected. Activities include an annual Northern Illinois convention and workshops held throughout the year. This organization meets on a quarterly basis.

Ladies Aid This organization conducts several activities and fund raising projects throughout the year. They raise funds for specific church projects or to Christian organizations through such events as the Spring and Fall Bazaar. There is plenty of fellowship, Bible study and other supportive activities in this group.

Altar Guild Messiah women set up the communion ware and elements for the communion services.
