Youth Organizations

A Young People's Organization, which had served the youth of the church for many years in a single society, had become inactive by 1940. A re-organization of interested young people showed that two groups were necessary because of the span of years covered, so Junior and Senior Walther Leagues were formed. By 1945 the gap between the two had broadened considerably, so the Senior Walther League became the Christian Service League with married and single membership, and a new Senior League was formed, restricted this time to single members. This group functioned nicely for a number of years and then dissolved in 1948 because so many of the eligible young people were attending college, were in the military, or were getting married and thereby rendered themselves ineligible for membership or discontinued their membership. The Walther League continues to serve the young people, the Christian Service League continues to function for the older married couples, and a new Couples Club for the younger marrieds came into being in 1974.
