The Cornerstones![]() ![]() Companion cornerstones to the left and right of the entrance proclaim the confession of the congregation and honor the forefathers of this parish. The words: "Jesus Christ Himself the Chief Cornerstone", Ephesians 2,20, were the foundation on which they built and upon which we have built anew. The "U.A.C." stands for "The Unaltered Augsburg Confession" and is a testimony of the thoroughly Lutheran Character of the congregation. This same abbreviation was inscribed on the cornerstone of the old church. The year 1875 records the date the congregation was organized. The stone to the right records the name of the congregation, Messiah Evangelical (Gospel preaching, Gospel teaching) Lutheran Church, and the year the cornerstone was laid, 1951. The copper cornerstone box is sealed behind this stone. Now, therefore, you are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit. (Ephesians 2:19-22, NKJV). |
