Fountain of Life

The series of windows on the north side of the nave offers an explanation of THE RELATIONSHIP OF THIS MESSIAH TO US and our relationship to Him. It begins with three descriptions Jesus used of Himself. The statement: "I . . . shall be in Him a well of water springing up into everlasting life," (John 4,14) has suggested THE FOUNTAIN OF LIFE symbol. Two peacocks are drinking the water of life and salvation from the fountain of Christ (represented by the Chi Rho on the green cross). The peacock symbol (representing either the resurrection or immortality) is very common in the catacombs, dating back to earliest Christian days.
